While the sun has its fingers
Wrapped in firmness about our necks
We keep faith with the umbrellas
Lisping litanies and chanting the hustlers’ creed

Our buttocks lap the ground
As our wares splay in ritual
Praying to the passersby:
Buy me off before I wear off
For I am the only hope of my owner
To live again after she lives today.
